Paul Deverall, 59, of West Kingsdown, Sevenoaks, was caught driving at 39mph in a 30mph limit on the A225 Hawley Road in Dartford on 10 November last year.
Deverall pleaded not guilty to the offence. However, following evidence on the accuracy and calibration of the safety camera, Magistrates found him guilty, fined him £990 and gave him the additional three points.
Katherine Barrett, Communications Officer for the Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership said: "Safety cameras are installed where there is a history of serious speed-related crashes. The safety camera van operates in Hawley Road and there is also a fixed safety camera because 28 people were killed or seriously injured along that stretch of the A225 in the three years before the camera installed. We just want people to slow down so that fewer casualties happen – we put signs up to warn drivers the cameras are there but some are still choosing to ignore them. This court case demonstrates how seriously speeding offences are taken and is a warning to anyone who thinks they can get away with it."
